Monorail Tales: A Disney Fan Podcast

Jan 17, 2023

In the mid 1960s, the Disney Company quietly proposed building a recreation-oriented development on 25,000 acres of property in Central Florida. The property was located a remote area of Orange and Osceola Counties so secluded that the nearest power and water lines were 10-15 miles away. Neither Orange nor Osceola County had the services or the resources needed to bring the project to life; but the drive and imagination of Walt Disney himself did. Join Sheila and Al as they discuss the history of the building of what came to be known as "Walt Disney World" and the many facts and stories of what this entailed, including secret land deals, creation of a unique government district, the death of Walt, and much more.
